Summit
The worlds goal energy goal is to be net-zero by some time in the future. While every thinking human being would want net-zero energy right now, today, even the most optimistic agencies postulate 2050 as a possible milestone target. Others believe this is too optimistic. What is clear is that irrespective of political belief or societal affiliation, the severity of the climate situation calls for action. Not only by governments and politicians. Users of energy will justifiably claim that it is also the responsibility of the energy industry to step up and take charge.
Norway's wealth is in part due to the successful energy industry, first through hydropower, then decades of petroleum production, and now venturing into wind, hydrogen, CCS, Ammonia and power systems. We have used this opportunity well, with decades of energy development, research and competence building, resulting in a plethora of highly competent Norwegian industry companies on all levels.
The question is, how can we use these decades of learnings to accelerate the development of offshore wind, power systems, hydrogen and CCS solutions to benefit the world's quest for a net-zero energy industry? And how can we, at the same time and in parallel, ramp up efforts to minimize the emissions from fossil energy sources in the decades ahead while we transition to lower emission energy or net-zero? How can the industry, the associations, the government, and the financiers provide the enabling market dynamics and opportunities to make this happen?
These are the questions we have raised to our panellists
